Your Tesla Horn and Movement Sounds Could Soon Be Comical, As User-Selectable Sounds Become Available
Ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Remember the coconut clopping to simulate horse noises? That’s going to be an option you can choose as your Tesla starts moving. That and other sounds are coming to an EV near you, as Elon reveals low-speed movement and horn sounds will be customizable.
“Tesla isn't done with whimsical software updates just because Netflix and Cuphead have reached your car... in fact, there's a good chance people outside the car will notice. Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla cars will "soon" have the option to customize horn and low-speed movement sounds. The full selection of sounds isn't available, but Musk is teasing goat bleats, rushing wind and even the coconut horse clops from Monty Python and the Holy Grail -- just in case you want to roll up to the traffic lights Arthur-style.” (Engadget)
Musk has made it clear he’s considering allowing users to upload their own sounds, but that does pose a risk; imagine someone uploading a horn that blares expletives or NSFW sounds. There’s also the issue of potential regional requirements the vehicles must abide by, such as specific familiar movement sounds in order to adequately warn pedestrians of a moving vehicle.
When ‘soon’ is specifically, we’re not entirely sure. But we’re very very excited.
