D3 Pitch Competition



The Moody College of Communications at UT Austin and Project Innovate are teaming up to host Digital Diversity Day! As part of the event, Project Innovate is inviting UT Austin students to participate in a themed pitch competition.

Diversity has many dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs or other ideologies. The Digital Diversity Day Pitch Competition empowers you to develop ideas that help dispel negative stereotypes and personal biases, and respect “ways of being” that are not necessarily your own.

Enter to become one of 5 Finalists who will pitch their innovative project idea around diversity through interactive media or games.  Top entrants will receive:

The Competition Objective is to develop an interactive media or gaming idea that addresses and supports digital diversity. This is a chance for you to create an idea for an experience, a series, a service and/or a platform that embraces diversity through inclusivity and equity. We all offer something unique, and together we are stronger.

Examples of interactive media and gaming include:


Project Requirements

  • Create a “Project Page” on to describe and promote your idea as it relates to the Competition objective.  Your Project Page should include the following:
    • A detailed description of your idea,
    • Your background and expertise,
    • Current market analysis,
    • How your idea is differentiated from alternative solutions, and
    • A visual representation of your idea (for example a video, UX design, or service flow chart of the product or service). 
    • Your Project must be set to 'Public'.  Private Projects are not allowed.  
    • All entries must be submitted by October 8th, 11:59 CDT.

  • Additional Recommendation:  You can provide additional data, descriptions and visuals including images, creative designs, charts and videos via YouTube links to showcase how your innovative idea meets the Competition objective and Judging Criteria. 


Then What?

From 10/11-10/15, a panel of judges will review the eligible entries to select the five (5) Finalists based on the following judging criteria. 

  • Fully-fleshed out Idea:  Entries should have a quality idea and all of the elements required on the Project Page:
    • A detailed description of your idea,
    • Current market analysis,
    • How your idea is differentiated from alternative solutions, and
    • A visual representation of your idea (for example a service flow chart of product or service).    
  • Innovation:  How well does the Entry reflect innovative ways of using interactive media and games, and have the potential to go to market.
  • Diversity, Social and Cultural Impact:  How well does the Entry showcase an innovation that extends what the concept of diversity and have strong potential for significant social and cultural impact.


If you are selected as one of the 5 Finalists, you must present your idea at Digital Diversity Day located at University of Texas at Austin, BMC 2.106, 300 W. Dean Keeton St., Austin, TX on October 27, 2019 between 1:35-3:45pm CT.  Your presentation will include a 10-minute pitch period plus a 10-minute Q&A session with the panel of judges.

Competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled as full-time students at the University of Texas at Austin (“UT Austin”) for the fall semester of 2019, who are legal residents of the United States and at least 18 years of age or older as of September 4, 2019.  Entry closes October 8, 2019, 11:59pm CDT.
